If This Isn’t Nice

ABOUT THIS WORK

“If this isn’t nice” is an entry exploration of American luxury, consumerism and space. Working in SanDiego, I was primarily motivated by the everyday juxtaposition between homelessness, luxury, and common place consumerism; identifying the ways these three things interact in a shared space. The title questions the common American assumption that spaces of luxury—hotels, residential parks, beaches—are purely emblematic of pleasure and comfort, by asking if these spaces aren’t nice, what do we as a society so narrowly focussed on consumer luxury, have? It is a mixture of still photographs, photoshop compositions, and diptychs. All photos were shot digitally by me and later transformed into archival pigment prints.
